Booking / Showcasing Guidelines

FRFF begins booking every year by mid NOVEMBER. The fest takes place in JULY, always on the 4th weekend. 2008 dates are July 24, 25, 26 & 27. Artists may submit electronically thru Sonicbids for feature and/or EMERGING ARTIST SHOWCASE consideration. The submission period for features is Sep to Feb. Showcase from Feb to May. Check the Sonicbids website for updates on deadlines.

FRFF has 4 stages. DANCE STAGE artists are booked first, MAINSTAGE next, FAMILY last. WORKSHOP stage features different combinations of performers booked on one or more of the other 3 stages sharing sets on a variety of topics. Some performers are booked specifically for one stage but most appear on more than one.

All feature submissions are logged into a database and automatic Email receipts are sent. All are reviewed and comments recorded. Booking is complete by mid March.

Please do not send unsolicited materials by mail. We are no longer able to review mail-ins. The festival will contact you if we have a spot or wish to request additional materials.

HOW DO WE DECIDE WHO TO BOOK?

The Artistic Director makes all programming decisions but before doing so, our audience surveys are carefully tabulated. A great deal is decided by OUR AUDIENCE including specific artists and types of music to include. The Singer/Songwriter and Contra Dance categories are of special note. Other performers including FAMILY STAGE artists, World, Bluegrass, Cajun, Blues are chosen by the AD. Sources include radio, other venues and our own meanderings around the folk world. New performers that our audience has never heard are sought out every year.

The FALCON RIDGE/GRASSY HILL EMERGING ARTIST SHOWCASE is open to all performers who have NOT showcased or appeared as part of a feature act at the fest in the last 2 years and who will not be appearing in any other capacity in the current year. This is a 2 song or 10 minute spot on our Mainstage on Friday afternoon. Artists new to the Northeast, not nationally touring or those with limited exposure are encouraged to apply.
